The Signal Processing Department is ARL's center for signal and image processing research, development implementation and testing for Navy, non-Navy DOD, and other government and industrial applications. Signal processing is the enabling technology for a wide range of applications that include, sonar, radar, seismic, communication, video imaging, biomedical signal processing, sensor fusion, and vehicle guidance and control.
In all of these applications, signal processing techniques are designed to detect the presence of desired signals in noise and interference, to enhance the desired signals, to reduce the effects of undesired signals, to extract useful information from the signals, to fuse this information with information from other sensors, and to display information contained within signals using various imaging techniques.
