The LASER PROCESSING DIVISION was established in 1988 by direction of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy to develop and disseminate laser processing technology. The US Navy recognized the Division’s pre-eminence by naming it the Navy Laser Applications Research Center-of-Excellence in 1995. The Division is also a component of the Navy Joining Center (NJC), conducting laser processing workshops and training. |

To maintain ARL Penn State’s preeminence in the application and dissemination of laser processing technology through continued development and implementation of advanced technology for:
Educational Progam in Laser Processing Technologies
A collaborative effort between the Engineering Science & Mechanics Department, the Electro Optic Center, and the Laser Processing Division has developed an educational program comprising Senior level courses, internships, and a Graduate level certificate program which combines formal education and practical training for technologists, engineers, and scientists in laser processing technologies.
