Manufacturing Systems is a major focus of current research in developing methodologies to automate and/or more tightly integrate the design process, cost estimating, and manufacturing system design. Virtual prototyping of component and manufacturing system designs enables engineers to explore a much larger set of design options, resulting in more robust designs, with shortened leadtimes, and reduced lifecycle cost. |
