Electrical/Embedded Engineer

The Torpedo Systems Division of the Undersea Weapons Office is looking for highly motivated self-starting engineers who desire to work in a dynamic environment encompassing a wide variety of disciplines. Electrical/Embedded Engineers will design, build, and test complex electronics and electrical components and assemblies.

These jobs will be filled as a level 3, level 4 or level 5, depending upon the successful candidates' education and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering, plus five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.

Skill in one or more of the following areas is required: Analog circuitry: power conversion, sonar systems; Digital Design: high speed board design, digital logic (FPGA/CPLDs); and/or Embedded Systems & Software: embedded C, Xilinx firmware, Simulink.  Additional requirements include: schematic capture and PCB layout (preferably Altium Designer) experience; knowledge of communications networks, and system level design (preferably for military vehicles). Previous experience with undersea weapons, extensive knowledge of standard engineering practices and familiarity with state-of-the-art manufacturing processes preferred. Must be able to work independently and manage tasks. Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation.

R&D Engineer

The Integrated Power Systems Department, located in the Energy Science and Power Systems Division of the Advanced Technology Office is looking for an R&D Engineer.  This position will provide support to lead electrical engineer in the design, analysis, and developmental testing of power plant control electronics and instrumentation and test equipment design, component and subsystem test planning, test execution and test documentation.

This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2 , or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate`s education and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) or higher in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.

Proficiency in the following is desirable: LabView and Altium printed circuit board design software; analog and digital circuit evaluation and testing protocols; microcontrollers and programmable logic devices; aerospace quality wiring harnesses; and embedded controller and instrumentation design. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation.

Electrical Engineering Support Specialist

The Integrated Power Systems Department, located in the Energy Science and Power Systems Division of the Advanced Technology Office is looking for Electrical Engineering Support Specialists.  These positions will:

·       Support the supervising engineer in the design, assembly, and developmental testing of powerplant control electronics and instrumentation, as well as electronic test equipment design, assembly, calibration, maintenance and documentation

·       Produce printed circuit designs and assist with drawing generation, procurement, acceptance testing, configuration management and troubleshooting of delivered parts, and assist with generation of assembly and acceptance test procedures

These jobs will be filled as a level 2, level 3 or level 4, depending upon the successful candidates' education and experience.  Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics or a related field plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2.  Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.

A demonstrated proficiency at precision soldering, cable fabrication, drawing interpretation and procedure adherence is required, as well as familiarity with standard electronic troubleshooting tools and techniques.  The following experience is preferred: a demonstrated proficiency with LabVIEW software and Altium printed circuit board design software; experience with analog and digital circuit evaluation and testing protocols, microcontrollers and programmable logic devices, and aerospace quality wiring harnesses.  Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation.

Mechanical Engineering Support Specialist

The Integrated Power Systems Department, located in the Energy Science and Power Systems Division of the Advanced Technology Office is looking for Mechanical Engineering Support Specialists.  These positions will:

·       Support the supervising engineer in the design, fabrication, procurement, inspection, assembly, testing and delivery of mechanical components and subsystems, tooling and test fixtures for compact prototype thermal powerplants

·       Design and drafting of test fixtures and simple parts, fabrication and inspection of precision parts, configuration management of hardware, interfacing with outside vendors, assembly of precision parts into subsystems, and test setup and simple documentation using MS Word and Excel.

These jobs will be filled as a level 2, level 3 or level 4, depending upon the successful candidates' education and experience. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related Mechanical, Aerospace or Manufacturing field plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.

A demonstrated proficiency at detailed mechanical assembly, precision measurement, drawing interpretation and procedure adherence, as well as familiarity with standard mechanical troubleshooting tools and techniques, is required. The following experience is preferred: a demonstrated proficiency with Siemens NX or AutoCAD mechanical design software, good working understanding of geometric dimensions and tolerances, and experience in a developmental testing environment with a working understanding of electronic instrumentation, including LabVIEW software. Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation.

These jobs will be filled as a level 3, level 4 or level 5, depending upon the successful candidates’ education and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Engineering Science and Mechanics, plus five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.

Must meet one or more of the following requirements: knowledge of materials and material properties; experience with material selection; understanding of common manufacturing processes and capabilities; experience with 3D CAD, including part modeling and drafting (prefer experience using Siemens NX); the ability to apply and interpret GD&T (per ASME Y14.5); understanding of tolerance analysis; structural analysis capabilities (skilled in ANSYS); and/or heat transfer / thermal analysis capabilities (skilled in ANSYS and/or Sinda Fluint). Previous experience with undersea weapons, extensive knowledge of standard engineering practices and familiarity with state-of-the-art manufacturing processes preferred. Must be able to work independently and manage tasks.  Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation.
